HP is poised to significantly bolster its manufacturing presence in India, aligning with the nation's ambition to become a global electronics manufacturing hub. The company is set to initiate large-scale local production of laptops, desktops, and all-in-one PCs in May 2025, marking a pivotal moment fueled by the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme. This strategic move is expected to nearly double HP's production output in India compared to the previous year.

This expansion is made possible through a collaboration with Dixon Technologies, a prominent electronics manufacturing services provider. This partnership is expected to not only cater to the rising domestic demand but also unlock potential export opportunities. HP is one of the 27 companies approved under the ₹17,000-crore PLI scheme for IT hardware, which was introduced in 2023.

Ipsita Dasgupta, Senior Vice President and Managing Director of HP India, has expressed confidence in the company's Indian operations, brushing aside concerns about India's import management system for electronic devices. She stated that HP's vision for India predates current global trade dynamics, aligning with India's ambition to become a key player in the global supply chain. HP India plans to increase its share of India-based production year after year.

While HP is focused on increasing local value addition, Dasgupta did not confirm whether the company would apply under the newly announced ₹23,000-crore component-focused PLI scheme.

HP's initiative strongly supports India's 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' mission, which aims to build stronger domestic supply chains, create jobs, and enhance the country's position in the global electronics market. With government backing and a growing local demand base, HP's manufacturing operations are positioned to significantly contribute to India's economic growth.

HP's commitment to the Indian market is further underscored by the launch of "HP Connects" centers in MSME hubs, aimed at providing hardware access and IT advisory services to underserved markets. This initiative reflects HP's focus on penetrating deeper into the Indian market and empowering small and medium-sized enterprises with technology solutions.

The company's confidence in India's manufacturing ecosystem is evident, with plans to steadily ramp up production over the next five years. HP anticipates that by the end of 2025, approximately 13% of all PCs sold in India by HP will be locally manufactured. This figure is projected to rise to one in every three HP PCs sold in India by 2031.

In addition to the manufacturing boost, HP has also been actively launching new products in the Indian market. These include AI-enhanced EliteBook laptops for enterprises, Victus 15 laptops for gamers with AI features, and the HP Latex R530 large format printer. These product launches demonstrate HP's commitment to providing cutting-edge technology solutions to Indian consumers and businesses.
