Google is now offering free access to its Gemini Advanced AI platform for students, providing a suite of powerful tools to assist with studies, research, and creative projects. This initiative aims to support students during demanding academic periods by providing access to advanced AI capabilities.

Gemini Advanced is Google's premium AI subscription tier, usually available through the Google One AI Premium Plan, which costs $20 per month. However, students can now access it for free until the summer of 2026 by signing up before June 30, 2025. This offer gives students access to Gemini Advanced, NotebookLM Plus, and Whisk, alongside 2TB of storage.

Gemini Advanced is powered by Gemini 2.5 Pro, Google's most intelligent AI model, accessible on both phone and desktop. It offers features like Canvas, a writing companion, and Gemini Live, a conversational assistant for brainstorming ideas. With Gemini Advanced, students can upload documents up to 1,500 pages long and ask questions across multiple chapters, analyze data, and streamline coding workflows. The platform also has a 1 million token context window, which means it can process a large amount of information simultaneously.

NotebookLM Plus is an AI-powered research assistant that becomes an expert on uploaded class syllabi or research sources. It can generate audio overviews, visual mind maps, and study guides. Students can also discover new study materials using the Discover Sources feature. The Google One AI Premium plan also grants access to Gemini in Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides.

The Google One AI Premium plan includes 2TB of storage for school projects, research, and media. This storage ensures students have enough space for their files. Furthermore, the plan provides access to Veo 2, Google's latest video generation model, allowing users to create and share videos within Gemini Advanced and animate images in Whisk.

Eligible students aged 18 and above in the U.S. can access the Google One AI Premium plan for free through finals in 2026. To benefit from the offer, students need to sign up before June 30, 2025, and reverify their enrollment by the end of August 2025. The offer is available to students using personal Gmail accounts, although a .edu email address is required for sign-up.
