Meta's smart glasses are receiving a significant software update, enhancing their capabilities with "Conversation Focus" and AI-powered Spotify features. The update, which began rolling out on December 16, 2025, aims to make the glasses more practical for everyday use by improving audio clarity and music experiences.

Conversation Focus: Hear Clearly in Noisy Environments

The "Conversation Focus" feature is designed to amplify the voices of people you're speaking with, making it easier to hear them in crowded or noisy environments. This feature utilizes the glasses' beam-forming microphones to directionally focus on the person in front of the user, filtering out background noise. Meta explains that the amplified voice will sound slightly brighter, helping users distinguish the conversation from ambient noise. Users can activate "Conversation Focus" via voice commands ("Hey Meta, start Conversation Focus") or by setting it as a tap-and-hold shortcut. The amplification level can be adjusted by swiping the right temple of the glasses or through device settings. This feature is available to users in the US and Canada.

Meta's "Conversation Focus" tackles the challenge of hearing in noisy environments, such as restaurants, bars, and public transportation. The open-ear design of the glasses prevents ear blocking and fatigue while maintaining awareness of environmental sounds.

AI-Powered Spotify Integration: Music to Match Your View

The update also introduces a new multimodal AI feature for Spotify. Users can now ask their glasses to play music on Spotify that corresponds with what they're looking at by saying, "Hey Meta, play a song to match this view". Spotify will then start a playlist "based on your unique taste, customized for that specific moment". For example, looking at holiday decor might trigger a similarly-themed playlist. This feature combines visual recognition with Spotify's music intelligence to create a contextual AI experience.

Meta describes the Spotify integration as "the first multimodal AI music experience" for smart glasses. The system understands context and mood, going beyond simple object recognition.

Additional Features and Availability

In addition to "Conversation Focus" and Spotify integration, the update includes other enhancements. For Oakley Meta Vanguard shades, users can trigger specific commands with a single word, such as "photo" to snap a picture or "video" to start a recording. This feature is designed to help athletes save time and effort during activities. When paired with a compatible Garmin watch, Oakley Meta Vanguard glasses can create personalized run and bike workouts using voice commands.

The updates are rolling out to Meta Ray-Ban glasses (both Gen 1 and Gen 2 models), as well as the Oakley Meta HSTN frames. The update is available first to those enrolled in Meta's early access program and will be available "gradually" to everyone else. The "Conversation Focus" feature is initially available to early access users in the US and Canada.
