Infosys has secured a significant 15-year contract worth £1.2 billion ($1.59 billion) with the NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA) to deliver the Future NHS Workforce Solution. This initiative marks a major technology partnership aimed at transforming workforce management within the UK's National Health Service (NHS) in England and Wales.
The Future NHS Workforce Solution is designed to replace the existing Electronic Staff Record (ESR) system, which currently supports 1.9 million NHS employees and processes £55 billion in annual payroll. Infosys will develop a cutting-edge, data-driven workforce management platform to streamline processes across the entire employee lifecycle, from recruitment and onboarding to payroll, career development, and retirement. The new system aims to create a modern, flexible, and integrated platform that empowers NHS staff and improves operational efficiency.
Aligned with the NHS's 10-year Health Plan, the solution intends to create a workforce that is ready for the future. It will invest in infrastructure to provide healthcare workers with modern tools, freeing up their time to focus on patient care. The platform will also enable NHS staff to easily manage their personal information and integrate seamlessly with other systems, enhancing user experience.
Infosys was selected following a rigorous procurement process that recognized the company's experience in delivering large-scale digital transformation programs, its innovative approach to user-centric design, and its commitment to operational excellence.
According to Infosys, the new platform will not only drive efficiency but also empower the NHS to enhance the quality of its services. The company's AI platform, Infosys Topaz, will power the solution, with AI-driven decision support, predictive analytics, and data integration capabilities enabling smarter workforce planning. This will allow the NHS to proactively manage staffing, forecast demand, and optimize recruitment.
The NHSBSA believes that the Future NHS Workforce Solution is a critical step towards realizing the ambitions of the 10-Year Health Plan. The solution will go beyond simply replacing the ESR system, serving as a strategic enabler for building a workforce fit for the future.
This deal is expected to provide Infosys with a significant boost, adding an estimated $150 million annually to the company's top line. It also marks the end of a two-year "drought" for Infosys in securing mega-deals (contracts valued over $1 billion).
Industry experts see this contract as an example of how AI-enabled services can transform large institutions. The partnership highlights the increasing trend of the UK public sector collaborating with private tech companies to drive innovation and modernize public services.
