Bose is ending support for its SoundTouch line of Wi-Fi speakers and soundbars, marking a downturn for devices that once represented audio innovation. Effective February 18, 2026, the company will discontinue cloud support for all SoundTouch products, which means these devices will lose key functionalities.
What's Changing?
After February 18, 2026, SoundTouch users will no longer have access to essential cloud-based features. Users will lose the ability to control their speakers through the app, stream directly from internet services, and use features dependent on the cloud, like software updates. Certain saved presets will become inactive, and users will be unable to modify them once the app is discontinued. The SoundTouch app will also cease to function, though it will remain available for download (except in Japan, where it will be available until December 31, 2025) until the support end date. Bose will delete product usage and telemetry data associated with SoundTouch products by February 25, 2026. SoundTouch products will no longer receive security updates.
Why is Bose Ending Support?
Bose cites the increasing cost and complexity of managing a legacy cloud infrastructure for an older generation of products as the reason for this decision. The company indicates that technology has evolved since the SoundTouch line was introduced in 2013, making it unsustainable to continue supporting the cloud infrastructure. They aim to shift their focus to newer platforms like the Bose Music app, which supports their newer models.
Trade-In Program
To ease the transition, Bose is offering a trade-in program in select regions, providing credit toward the purchase of new Bose products. To check eligibility, users can enter their product serial numbers through Bose's support channels or log into their My Bose account. Eligible products for trade-in include SoundTouch 10, 20, 30, Portable, Wave Music System, Stereo JC, SA4, SA5, and Soundbar 300.
