Google's Gemini is reportedly testing a significant visual update, potentially transforming the AI chatbot's interface into an Instagram-inspired, scrollable feed. This redesign aims to provide a more engaging and intuitive user experience, moving away from the traditional, minimalist chatbot interface that presents a blank screen.

The potential redesign was discovered by Android Authority, who analyzed the latest version of the Gemini Android app. The updated interface isn't yet available to the public but was enabled through reverse engineering of the app's code. The new home screen layout showcases key features like "Create Image" and "Deep Research" prominently at the top. Below these shortcuts, a continuous, scrollable feed displays suggested prompts accompanied by eye-catching visuals.

These suggested prompts are designed to spark creativity and guide users in exploring Gemini's capabilities. Examples include playful ideas such as "Teleport me to deep space," "Give me a vintage grunge look," or "Turn my drawing into a storybook". Other prompts highlight practical uses, such as "Brainstorm out loud with Live" or "Send me a daily news roundup," offering users clear entry points into the app's functionality. Each prompt is paired with a vibrant visual background, enhancing the app's aesthetic appeal.

The current Gemini interface, like those of ChatGPT, DeepSeek, and Perplexity, features a simple text box at the bottom. The shift towards a more visual interface may be influenced by the success of OpenAI's Sora, which recently topped the Apple App Store charts. A scrollable, feed-based layout could improve user engagement, appealing to mobile users accustomed to scrolling formats like TikTok and Instagram Reels.

A Bank of America analyst, Justin Post, noted that this move could boost user interaction and expand use cases for Gemini. New content formats could also increase opportunities for premium subscription tiers or sponsored content placements.

Google has not officially confirmed these changes, and a company spokesperson declined to comment. Therefore, it remains unclear whether the redesigned Gemini interface will be rolled out to the public. However, the presence of the new UI in the app's code suggests that Google is actively evaluating this shift.

If launched, the redesigned interface could give Gemini a distinct advantage over other AI chatbots like ChatGPT and DeepSeek, which still rely on minimalist designs. The update may also capitalize on the popularity of Google's AI image model, Nano Banana, which helped Gemini reach the top of the App Store charts in September.

This potential revamp reflects a broader trend towards multimodal chatbot interfaces that allow users to interact through text, voice, images, and video. These interfaces are shaping up to be the future of AI assistants, offering better user interaction and monetization opportunities.

In recent news, Gemini has gained momentum, surpassing ChatGPT as the "best AI at the end of 2025" on the prediction market Kalshi. Google is also integrating Gemini into Chrome, bringing agentic AI capabilities to the world's most popular browser.

The move to a more visually-driven interface could help maintain Gemini's momentum and further strengthen Google's position in the competitive AI market.
