The Honor Magic V5 has arrived, pushing the boundaries of foldable phone design with its incredibly thin profile and impressive features. Launched globally on August 28, 2025, the Magic V5 aims to compete with established players like Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 7.

Design and Build

The Honor Magic V5 is lauded for its sleek and premium design. When folded, it measures a mere 8.8mm thick (Ivory White model), and when unfolded, it's an astonishingly thin 4.1mm. The Black and Dawn Gold versions are slightly thicker at 9mm and 4.2mm respectively. The phone's weight is also impressively light, at around 217g, making it comfortable to hold and carry.

The Magic V5 is constructed using high-quality materials. The back cover combines aramid fiber, S-grade glass fiber, and PBO fiber for lightweight strength. The frame is made of aluminum, and both the inner and outer displays have anti-scratch surfaces. The outer display features Honor's Anti-scratch NanoCrystal Shield, while the inner display has an Honor Super Armored finish. The hinge is made from aerospace-grade materials like zirconium-based liquid metal, corrosion-resistant titanium alloy, and lightweight carbon fiber, ensuring durability and a smooth folding action. The device also boasts IP58 and IP59 dust and water resistance.

The phone comes in several colors: Black, Ivory White, Dawn Gold, and Reddish Brown.

Display

The Honor Magic V5 boasts excellent OLED panels. The cover screen is a 6.43-inch LTPO OLED with a 120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 5000 nits. The inner screen is a 7.95-inch Foldable LTPO AMOLED with a 120Hz refresh rate and 5000 nits peak brightness. Both screens offer vibrant colors, excellent contrast, and are bright enough for comfortable outdoor viewing. Both panels also feature 4,320Hz PWM dimming.

Performance and Software

Under the hood, the Magic V5 features Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, coupled with up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. This combination delivers smooth performance for everyday tasks, gaming, and multitasking.

The phone runs on MagicOS 9.0.1, based on Android 15. While Honor has collaborated with Google to improve the software experience, some reviewers note that the UI still retains remnants of older builds and could benefit from a redesign. The Magic V5 is slated to receive seven years of Android OS updates and security patches.

Camera

The Honor Magic V5 features a versatile camera system. The rear camera setup includes a 50MP main camera with OIS, a 64MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom and OIS, and a 50MP ultrawide lens. There are two 20MP selfie cameras, one on each display. The camera is capable of recording 4K video at 60fps. Reviewers note that the camera system is among the best on any foldable.

Battery

The global version of the Honor Magic V5 has a 5820mAh silicon-carbon battery. It supports 66W wired fast charging and 50W wireless charging. The phone can be charged to 50% in just 18 minutes.

Pricing and Availability

The Honor Magic V5 is available in a 16GB/512GB configuration outside China. It is priced at £1,699 in the U.K. and €1,999 in other European countries.
