Meta Platforms has announced the appointment of Dina Powell McCormick and Patrick Collison to its Board of Directors, effective April 15, 2025. This move will expand the board to 15 members. The addition of these two accomplished individuals signals Meta's continued focus on innovation, economic opportunity, and navigating the evolving landscape of technology and regulation.
Mark Zuckerberg, Founder and CEO of Meta, emphasized the valuable experience that McCormick and Collison bring to the board, particularly in supporting businesses and entrepreneurs. He noted Collison's commitment to expanding economic opportunity and McCormick's long career advocating for economic development and supporting entrepreneurs.
Patrick Collison is the Co-Founder and CEO of Stripe, a technology company specializing in building programmable financial services. He founded Stripe with his brother, John Collison, in 2010. Beyond Stripe, Collison is also a co-founder of the Arc Institute, a biomedical research institute pioneering a new model for basic research. Collison expressed his enthusiasm for joining Meta's board, recognizing the importance of Meta's platforms for businesses. He looks forward to assisting Meta in navigating the opportunities ahead.
Dina Powell McCormick is currently the Vice Chair, President & Head of Global Client Services at BDT & MSD Partners. She brings over 25 years of experience in finance and government to Meta's board. Her career includes 16 years in senior leadership roles at Goldman Sachs, where she was a partner and served on the management committee. During her time at Goldman Sachs, she spearheaded economic development programs, including 10,000 Women, 10,000 Small Businesses, and One Million Black Women. McCormick has also served in the U.S. government under two presidents, including as Deputy National Security Advisor under President Donald Trump and as Assistant Secretary of State under President George W. Bush. She is also the co-author, with her husband Senator David McCormick, of the New York Times best-seller "Who Believed in You: The Power of Transformative Mentorship". McCormick stated she is excited to bring her experience in finance, government, and economic development to support Meta's users and entrepreneurs.
These appointments come at a time when Meta is facing increasing regulatory scrutiny and is preparing for a significant legal battle with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) regarding its past acquisitions of Instagram and WhatsApp. Meta's increased spending on lobbying and the addition of McCormick, with her deep ties to economic policy and government, suggest a more assertive presence in political circles.
The appointment of McCormick, who previously served in the Trump administration, also reflects Silicon Valley's evolving political landscape. As Meta and other tech companies navigate the shifting political powers, strategic appointments like these can help build relationships with various administrations.
With the addition of Patrick Collison and Dina Powell McCormick, Meta's board now includes Mark Zuckerberg, Peggy Alford, Marc L. Andreessen, John Arnold, John Elkann, Drew Houston, Nancy Killefer, Robert M. Kimmitt, Charlie Songhurst, Hock E. Tan, Tracey T. Travis, Dana White, and Tony Xu. This diverse group of leaders brings a wide range of expertise to guide Meta in its future endeavors.
