WhatsApp is rolling out a series of updates to its Status feature, aiming to enhance user engagement and creative expression. Among these new tools is a collage layout, which allows users to share multiple moments with their friends in a single status update.
The new collage layout feature allows users to select up to six images and arrange them within a single frame. This feature is similar to the collage layout available on Instagram, offering a visually appealing way to share trip highlights, event memories, or everyday snapshots. Users can customize the arrangement of the images using the built-in editing tools. This provides a more dynamic and engaging alternative to posting individual photos.
In addition to the collage layout, WhatsApp is introducing other features to enrich the Status experience. Users can now add music stickers to their statuses, overlaying their favorite songs on photos or videos. This adds an audio-visual dimension to status updates, making them more engaging and personalized. Users can also share a song as their status.
Another addition is the ability to turn photos into stickers. Users can crop, resize, and reshape any image to create custom stickers, adding a personal touch to their status updates. Furthermore, the "Add Yours" feature, borrowed from Instagram and Facebook, allows users to post prompts and invite friends to respond with their own photos or videos, creating a collaborative and interactive experience.
These new features reflect WhatsApp's ongoing efforts to make the app a richer and more expressive space for communication. The rollout of these features will occur gradually over the coming months, ensuring that all users eventually have access to the updated Status functionalities.
WhatsApp is also testing a feature to allow users to receive notifications when specific contacts post a status update. This will allow users to prioritize updates from close friends and family. Users will be able to enable notifications for select contacts directly from the status update screen.
