Samsung has once again pushed the boundaries of mobile technology with the unveiling of its latest foldable smartphones, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Galaxy Z Fold 7. These devices showcase significant advancements in design, performance, and functionality, solidifying Samsung's position as a leader in the foldable market.

Galaxy Z Fold 7: A New Standard for Foldable Smartphones

The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is the thinnest and lightest foldable phone Samsung has ever created. When unfolded, it measures a mere 4.2mm thick and weighs only 215 grams. When folded, it measures 8.9 millimeters. This sleek design makes it more comfortable to hold and carry, feeling more like a conventional smartphone. To achieve this, Samsung has incorporated an upgraded Armor FlexHinge, enhancing durability while reducing the visibility of the crease on the folding display. The Z Fold 7 boasts a wider 21:9 aspect ratio on its cover display, making everyday tasks like messaging and browsing more convenient without needing to unfold the device. The main screen spans 8 inches, providing an expansive display for immersive experiences.

Under the hood, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. The phone features a 200MP main camera with a next-generation ProVisual Engine, along with a 12MP ultrawide lens and a 10MP telephoto lens. The front camera has a wider 100-degree field of view, perfect for group selfies. The device also introduces Gemini Live AI, an AI assistant for enhanced productivity, capable of processing text, images, audio, and video. It runs on One UI 8 based on Android 16 and will receive seven years of Android OS upgrades.

However, to achieve its slim design, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 may have dropped S Pen support. The phone is available for preorder now and will officially launch on August 1, 2025, with a starting price of $2,899.

Galaxy Z Flip 7: Compact and Stylish

For those who prefer a more compact form factor, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 offers a blend of style and functionality. The Z Flip 7 has bigger screens than the Z Flip 6, with a 6.9-inch foldable main display and a 4.1-inch cover screen. The cover screen takes up almost all of the available space on that section of the phone and has a 120Hz refresh rate. The Z Flip 7 measures 13.7mm when folded and 6.5mm when unfolded, making it slimmer than its predecessor. It weighs 188g and features an Armor Aluminum frame with Gorilla Glass Victus 2.

The Galaxy Z Flip 7 is equipped with an Exynos 2500 chipset and 12GB of RAM. It also has a larger 4,300mAh battery. The camera system includes a 50MP main lens, a 12MP ultrawide lens, and a 10MP selfie camera. The Z Flip 7 also comes in a Fan Edition (FE) version with a less powerful Exynos 2400 chip and 8GB of RAM.

One of the key features of the Z Flip 7 is Flex Mode, which allows users to tilt the phone between 75° and 115° for hands-free selfies and videos. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 is available for preorder and will hit shelves on July 25, starting at $1,099.

AI Integration and Future Trends

Samsung is placing a strong emphasis on AI integration in its new foldables. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 offer features like object eraser, summarization of webpages and notes, and writing assistance. The company is also working closely with Google to bring Gemini experiences to its devices, including Circle to Search for mobile gaming and Gemini Live on the cover display.

Looking ahead, Samsung is exploring new foldable form factors, including a possible tri-fold smartphone. Roh Tae-moon, head of Samsung's smartphone business, has indicated that a tri-fold device could be launched by the end of the year.
