The Honor Magic V5 has officially debuted as the world's thinnest foldable smartphone, grabbing the crown from the Oppo Find N5. Honor's newest foldable marvel measures a mere 8.8mm when folded, a hair thinner than the Oppo Find N5's 8.9mm. When unfolded, the Magic V5 is only 4.1mm thick. However, it is important to note that this record-breaking thinness applies specifically to the Ivory White colorway, and the measurement excludes the camera bump.

Design and Durability

Despite its slim profile, the Honor Magic V5 doesn't compromise on durability. The device boasts an IP58 rating, providing dust and water resistance. This is an improvement over its predecessor, the Magic V3, which had an IPX8 rating. The Magic V5 is engineered with a carbon fiber reinforced inner display panel and an anti-scratch nanocrystal shield on the outer screen. Internally, a carbon fiber layer with 380GPa deformation resistance acts as a shock buffer. The hinge has also been redesigned with a Super Steel Hinge capable of withstanding weights of up to 35kg without bending. The folding mechanism is built to endure 500,000 folding cycles, which equates to roughly 100 folds per day for 13 years. Adding to its innovative design, the Magic V5 has "AI-Powered Foreign Object Detection" that alerts users when particles enter the inner screen.

Display

The Honor Magic V5 features two impressive displays. The internal display is a 7.95-inch 120Hz LTPO OLED panel with a resolution of 2532x2172 pixels and a peak brightness of 5,000 nits. The cover display is a 6.43-inch 120Hz LTPO OLED panel with a 2376x1060 resolution and the same peak brightness. Both displays also feature a 20MP selfie camera.

Performance and Battery

Powering the Honor Magic V5 is Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. The device comes with up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of internal storage. The international version of the Magic V5 is powered by a 5,820mAh battery. In China, the 1TB model features a 6,100mAh silicon-carbon battery. The Magic V5 supports 66W wired Honor SuperCharge and 50W wireless charging.

Camera

The Honor Magic V5 is equipped with a triple-camera system. The setup includes a 50MP primary camera, a 50MP ultrawide camera, and a 64MP periscope telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom. The telephoto camera is capable of up to 100x digital zoom. For selfies, there are two 20MP cameras, one on each display.

Pricing and Availability

The Honor Magic V5 was launched in China on July 2, 2025. In China, the base model with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage is priced at CNY 8,999 (approximately RM5,319). The high-end variant with 16GB RAM and 1TB storage costs CNY 10,999 (approximately RM6,502). The Magic V5 is available in Ivory White, Black, Dawn Gold, and Reddish Brown. The global launch is scheduled for July 15 in Malaysia.

Competition

The Honor Magic V5 enters a competitive foldable market, challenging devices like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 and the Oppo Find N5. Samsung is expected to unveil the seventh generation of its Galaxy Z Fold phone, which is rumored to have a similar thickness to the Oppo Find N5.
