Meta and Oakley have joined forces to introduce the Oakley Meta HSTN smart glasses, a cutting-edge wearable tech designed to revolutionize sports performance and training. Officially unveiled on June 20th, 2025, these glasses represent a significant leap forward in the smart glasses market, specifically targeting athletes and active users seeking enhanced capabilities from their wearable devices.
The Oakley Meta HSTN glasses are not merely a stylistic iteration but a purpose-built performance tool. They boast substantial upgrades compared to the earlier Ray-Ban Meta glasses, including double the battery life, improved camera resolution, and enhanced durability, all encased in Oakley's signature athletic design.
One of the most notable improvements is the battery life. The Oakley Meta HSTN glasses offer up to eight hours of typical use, a significant increase from the Ray-Ban Meta's four hours. Additionally, they provide 19 hours on standby and can gain 50% charge in just 20 minutes, with a charging case extending usage by up to 48 hours. This ensures athletes can rely on the glasses throughout extended training sessions or competitions.
The camera capabilities have also been upgraded, featuring 3K video recording (2203x2938 resolution in portrait mode) compared to the Ray-Ban Meta's 1080p. This allows for sharper footage, better detail capture during high-speed activities, and higher quality content for analysis or sharing. The glasses maintain the 12MP ultra-wide camera for photos, ensuring consistency across both product lines.
Durability is another key feature, with the HSTN frame design engineered for active use. The glasses have an IPX4 water resistance rating, protecting them from sweat, rain, and splashes. The secure fit, based on Oakley's HSTN frame design, ensures they stay in place during intense activities. Enhanced audio features, including open-ear Bluetooth speakers and five onboard microphones, provide clear sound even in noisy environments.
The Oakley Meta HSTN glasses also integrate Meta AI, functioning as a personal assistant. Users can ask questions and receive real-time information, such as wind speed during a golf game. This feature aims to provide athletes with immediate insights and support during their activities.
Meta is collaborating with Team Oakley athletes, including World Cup winner Kylian Mbappé and three-time Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes, to promote the new line. This underscores the focus on athletic performance and the potential of these glasses to enhance training and competition.
The Oakley Meta HSTN glasses are available in a limited-edition Desert 24k Prizm Polar colorway starting July 11th for $499, with the rest of the collection available later this summer for $399. While positioned as a premium product, the price is competitive with other high-end sports eyewear, justifying the advanced capabilities for serious athletes and active users.
