The tech world is buzzing with anticipation as AMD teases the imminent reveal of its next-generation Radeon GPUs. The announcement, expected to be made at Computex 2025 on May 21st, has gamers and industry insiders alike eagerly awaiting details on the advancements Team Red has been cooking up. This reveal strategically positions AMD to compete head-to-head with Nvidia, particularly in the budget GPU market.
AMD subtly confirmed the reveal date via a post on X, showcasing what appears to be a render of the highly anticipated Radeon RX 9060 XT. This card is rumored to be available in two variants, one with 8GB of VRAM and another with 16GB. The 8GB version is expected to have limited availability at launch, which is currently slated for June. The decision to offer two memory configurations acknowledges the varying needs of gamers, especially with graphically demanding titles pushing the limits at higher resolutions.
Notably, AMD has confirmed they will not be producing reference cards for the RX 9060 XT. This means consumers will only be able to purchase the new GPU through board partners.
This reveal comes hot on the heels of Nvidia's planned RTX 5060 launch on May 19th, setting the stage for a potentially fierce showdown between the two graphics giants. The RTX 5060 is rumored to only come in an 8GB variant. This gives AMD a unique advantage to overshadow Nvidia with the unveiling of their 16GB variant of RX 9060 XT. The deciding factor for consumers will undoubtedly be the price.
While specific details remain under wraps, expectations are high for AMD's new RDNA 4 architecture. The Radeon RX 9000 series, which includes the RX 9070 XT and RX 9070, promises significant improvements, including enhanced ray tracing capabilities and powerful AI accelerators. AMD is also touting advancements in its FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) technology. FSR 4, the latest iteration, uses machine learning to upscale lower-resolution content to 4K while preserving high image quality. Unlike previous versions, FSR 4 will be exclusive to the Radeon RX 9000 series.
The launch of the RX 9060 XT is particularly significant. AMD is aiming to disrupt the mainstream gaming market by offering a compelling combination of performance and affordability. The 8GB RX 9060 XT is expected to launch at $299, while the 16GB version should cost $349. AMD is confident, calling the 16GB version "the world's best graphics cards under $350". In early performance teasers, the RX 9060 XT appears to outperform Nvidia's RTX 5060 Ti in gaming when not using frame generation. The RX 9060 XT features 32 compute units, GDDR6 VRAM, a boost clock of 3.1 GHz, and a TDP of 180W.
The new Radeon AI PRO R9700 is expected to be available from leading board partners starting in July 2025. The AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 9000 WX-Series processors are expected to be available from MNCs, including Dell, HP and Lenovo, and Supermicro, as well as system integrators starting later this year. High-end desktop platforms featuring AMD Ryzen Threadripper 9000 Series processors, as well as DIY Ryzen Threadripper 9000 Series and select Ryzen Threadripper PRO 9000 WX-Series processors, will be available from retailers starting July 2025.
With the reveal date fast approaching, the stage is set for AMD to make a splash at Computex 2025. The company's focus on delivering next-gen graphics, coupled with competitive pricing, could position them as a major player in the GPU market.
