Looking ahead, Microsoft is focused on building an open agentic web, where AI agents can move across platforms, access tools, and carry out sophisticated tasks autonomously. CTO Kevin Scott has called for open standards to fuel this "agentic web," emphasizing that AI agents will only reach their full potential if they can "talk to everything in the world.". Microsoft is also delivering broad first-party support for Model Context Protocol (MCP) across its agent platform and frameworks, spanning GitHub, Copilot Studio, Dynamics 365, Azure AI Foundry, Semantic Kernel and Windows 11.

Microsoft's commitment to AI extends to its products, with deeper Copilot integration anticipated across its consumer and enterprise offerings. For Windows, new features may include "agentic" capabilities that allow the tool to handle routine PC tasks. Microsoft is also reportedly testing AI models developed by xAI, Meta, Anthropic, and DeepSeek as potential alternatives to OpenAI's technology in Copilot, and has developed a proprietary family of models, internally called MAI.
