The urgency stems from the pervasive impact of AI across industries, from revolutionizing shopping and education to tackling climate science. Microsoft sees AI's most profound impact on the developers themselves, who require new tools, platforms, and ways of thinking to build AI-enhanced applications effectively. As AI redefines software, the need for new development approaches becomes increasingly urgent.

Microsoft is uniquely positioned to lead this transformation due to its decades of investment in platforms, developer tools, and infrastructure. The company is committed to sharing its learning in the age of GenAI to empower every person and organization to achieve more. This involves collaboration, partnership, and shared learning, recognizing the evolving nature of AI implementation. To that end, Microsoft has invested $80 billion in 2025 to build out AI-enabled data centers to train AI models and deploy AI and cloud-based applications around the world.

In collaboration with G42, Microsoft has also launched a Responsible AI Foundation and AI for Good Lab in Abu Dhabi.

Looking ahead, Microsoft is focused on building an open agentic web, where AI agents can move across platforms, access tools, and carry out sophisticated tasks autonomously. CTO Kevin Scott has called for open standards to fuel this "agentic web," emphasizing that AI agents will only reach their full potential if they can "talk to everything in the world.". Microsoft is also delivering broad first-party support for Model Context Protocol (MCP) across its agent platform and frameworks, spanning GitHub, Copilot Studio, Dynamics 365, Azure AI Foundry, Semantic Kernel and Windows 11.

Microsoft's commitment to AI extends to its products, with deeper Copilot integration anticipated across its consumer and enterprise offerings. For Windows, new features may include "agentic" capabilities that allow the tool to handle routine PC tasks. Microsoft is also reportedly testing AI models developed by xAI, Meta, Anthropic, and DeepSeek as potential alternatives to OpenAI's technology in Copilot, and has developed a proprietary family of models, internally called MAI.

By strategically leveraging AI across its product lines, cloud platform, and customer experience solutions, Microsoft aims to maintain a competitive edge and drive meaningful innovation that benefits businesses and society.
